I read this one with a beer and god that put a smile upon my face ! You 2 were meant for each other and you're definitely the kind of crazy I enjoy so much ! Fantastic job mate !
This is something that I think every Oldschool wargamer would love to be able to do i.e. talk with his childhood idols. I'm really happy for you Thomas & thank-you so much for sharing your email conversation with us all.
Fantastic, A must read for anyone who wants to know more about Oldhammer and how we roll here in the New World. Also Blue ordered me to read this. I also think this is the kind of thing that would make a good fanzine, or whatever you want to call it, for us to promote and encourage more Oldhammer USA.
That is just awesome. Love reading the scrolls! And great to hear that he still loves the core of Warhammer rules. This is just awesome, and we should make a flyer up of these and other things for Warhammer Day....that would be cool to have to promote the event! (So i agree with Sean). Maybe a newsletter of blogs type thing....could b cool. And to Stillmanicus, King of Stillmania - thank you! (and way to go AirborneGrove26 - what wonderful work!)
Thanks Blake! I'm glad everyone is enjoying the read as much as I had in putting it all together. All the credit does go to Nigel for putting up with me though. LOL
A lovely read! Great to see that at least for Nigel, the Old Warhammer sillines and whimsy wasn't an affectation. And thanks for reminding me who was the brain between several of my favorite army books. You both have a delightful way of mincing words. Please do more...
Modhail, your comment is most appreciated. It is good to note that, and hopefully you have read all the old Stillmania articles as well! As I discover more scrolls and get them translated I will most definitely share them!
You have to click on each pic as I assume you are trying to read it on a phone. It will blow up so you can read it. If you missed my banner, this is Give'em Lead Oldhammer Comics so things around here on in Comic Form. ;)
I'm not sure what your getting at. On a pc it is very readable. If you can't read it on the actual blog. Right click each pic to a new tab. The photos are quite large so you should be able to read it.
Come on now Grove, you should've prepared it in multiple fonts as well as providing an audio version where you do an impression of Stillman for his parts. It's like you've put no fucking effort at all into this
Yeah! That was a really fun and informative read. Thanks to you both for taking the time to cross the streams, rip open a hole in space-time and exchange scrolls.
Great stuff, Tom! I greatly enjoyed Stillmania back in the day, and this interview was very insightful. I particularly like the idea of not "overdeveloping" rules and of the conflict between the commercial drive of releasing new rules versus keeping a ruleset active to accommodate the players actually building their armies and learning the game. Bravo!
Brilliant work on securing this interview; a very interesting read and I hope you can get more insights from the lost scrolls of Stillmania in the future.
I finally got to read it all. What a great exchange this was, I really enjoyed it. Nigel's thoughts are an enigma wrapped in chivalry, dipped in creativity and consumed with relish. I hope we get to feast on his brains again soon! :)
I know it's a bit old now but I discovered this a little while ago, and come back again to read it now and then to remind myself why I love wargaming. Being confronted with spammy, win-at-all-costs discussion all the time can really suck some of the love out of it, but this stuff is very inspiring.
Hi, I know I'm late to the party but that was a fantastic interview. It was so good to hear from Nigel. I still have the original "Stillmania" white dwarf, plus his book on making wargames terrain. It's good to know he's a big fan of Frazetta and Conan (as am I). I was wondering, would it be possible to put me in touch with Nigel? Two years ago I started writing my own 9th ed warhammer army books and recently I've completed a book for Mousillon, which I'd like to give him (I always loved his 5th ed Bretonnian book). I'd also like to talk to him about oldhammer and some of the plot threads that got dropped later on
You wonderful pair of bastards, that was a fantastic read!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it Rochie!

ReplyDeleteThanks Sean! If Bloo ordered it, you know it's serious...or completely not serious LOL.
DeleteNIgel Stillman is one of the under-sung heroes of Warhammer Fantasy. Great interview, look forward to similar scrolls...
ReplyDeleteThanks Simon...and I have to agree. I to look forward to more scrolls. I will share as soon as more are discovered. Glad you enjoyed it!

DeletePlease put this in NORMAL TYPEFACE AND FONT AS IT'S COMPLETELY UNREADABLE.

DeleteComics have ten-fifteen words per bubble. Not massive block capital paragraphs.
DeleteIt's unreadable on a PC. Potentially interesting topic but it's not even remotely accessible.

DeleteLooks like we got ourselves a Comic Sans hater here Grover ;)
DeleteYeah! That was a really fun and informative read. Thanks to you both for taking the time to cross the streams, rip open a hole in space-time and exchange scrolls.
ReplyDeleteThanks Zhu, we lost many good scribes that we sent through the void. There are still scrolls yet undiscovered. Glad you liked. ;)

ReplyDeleteThanks Dustin. Yes I thought that was an interesting point as well. Glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteMany, many thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great read and also fantastic to finally know what I always suspected, he's also an archaeologist! :)
You are most welcome Fincas!

Thanks...I will always be looking for more scrolls. ;)

ReplyDeleteThanks Crooksy! Me as well.
DeleteMan, I finally got a chance to sit down and read this only to discover THAT IT IS COMPLETELY UNREADABLE!! lol. Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteLol Thanks dawg ;)
