I am a Barbarian and Barbarianism must Ultimately Triumph!

“Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.”
Robert E. Howard

I got these beautiful figures in the mail today.  The thief is cool, but the Barbarian is what I was after!

Ever since I saw this figure in the Frostgrave previews I had to have him.  He conjures all I love about fantasy and savagery.  For Conan is what started me on my Oldhammer path.

Looking through my dad's old Lancer Conan books from the 70's, and chance look at a Frazetta art book when I was very young.  The barbarian or Conan sent me into a world very different from my own.
“Barbarianism is the natural state of mankind. Civilization is unnatural. It is the whim of circumstance. And barbarianism must ultimately triumph”
Robert E. Howard

So what am I going to do with this guy...well paint him duh!  But now comes the hard part for what?

Do I add him to my already established Chaos army?

Do I make him as one off hero for Heroquest?

Or do I put him at the head of his own Barbarian Warband?  Rab certainly as inspired me with his latest creation.

Who knows what I will decide.  Your advice and comments are welcome of course.

As for now I need to sit down and settle on a paint scheme.  I have had a quick thumb through the following images.  Hopefully they will lead to some inspiration.

I think I will ultimately hold off till after Oldhammer weekend though as my creative thoughts should be at full throttle afterwards.

“The more I see of what you call civilization, the more highly I think of what you call savagery!”
Robert E. Howard,
King Kull

Also I  bought into...

I'm not really after the game, but the ZOMBIES!

Who wouldn't want piles and piles of fantasy zombies?  I can already see scenarios happening such as this...
It will give me a chance to channel my inner Schwarzenegger!

Well fellow Barbarians till next time.  Stay Savage my friends. ;)
Here's Conan saving some boobs from Zombies and Sharks

  1. Glad you like my centaur :)

Go for a whole new warband - it would give you more freedom in terms of painting-style and so on.

    1. That is what I am really leaning towards. I'm going to take my time with this project though. Really give it some thought.

  2. Conan is the best! I loved the old Marvel comics of the late '70s, even before I'd ever heard of D&D. Only thing about the mini is that that, between his chin and arm, it seems to lack definition, but maybe that's just the angle of the picture, as the painted example looks great. Also, can't tell whether he has pants (as the painted mini does) or if they're bare legs. If the mini can be painted either way, personally, I'd go with the bare legs and the fur mankini look. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing your final result, whether it a single model or a full warband.

    1. Tiny Basement as to your questions it is the photo the definition between the chin and arm are good. He is wearing pants. I think it would be a tough hack job to make them look like legs. The only other option would be to hack him off at the waist and possibly put him on an old grenadier barbarian lower half. I'm really looking forward to this mini as well. I haven't been this excited about a single miniature in a long time.
